I was recently asked to provide consultation on a couple of workers compensation claims where home modifications were required. With the first one, the insurance company decided they wanted to stay away from contracting and instead wanted to determine a reasonable cost, pay the insured directly and allow them to hire a contractor to modify the home.
On the second file the insured decided they would prefer to have the check written to them and then be allowed to “shop around” for a contractor.
