Here are three things you should consider :
1) Clarity of benefits - Provide clarity by providing a simple explanation of benefits. Explain when home modifications are considered and why. Also explain “medical necessity” and what the criteria is that is used to determine the scope of work.
2) Clarity of process - Limit the confusion for all parties by providing printed information explaining the process involved. I recommend a simple “bullet” format explaining the steps taken when home modifications are being considered. Then of course, make sure you follow the process.
3) Clarity of home modification policies - Be clear up front on your corporate policies regarding home modifications. Explain your policy as it pertains to the ADA, explain your “like kind and quality” policy, your “line of site” with flooring policy, your upgrading policy etc...
