At the root of this conflict lies the perception of entitlement. The flames are then fueled with family involvement and legal representation. The end result is the delayed provision of benefits and ultimately the injured policyholder suffers the most. The policyholder’s perception is based on reality, albeit a frequently skewed version. The reality is that they were 1) Injured 2) Covered by a policy 3) Entitled to benefits. The skewed reality happens for one of two reasons: 1) Due to the insured’s lack of understanding of not only the policy, but also the process, or 2) They are simply out to “milk” the system regardless of reality.
